Summary of Hosea 4

Hosea warns the Israelites of what is to come, declaring God’s charges against Israel. There is no faithfulness, love, or acknowledgment of God in the land, only evil. So the land will dry up and all who live in it will waste away. The Israelites have rejected knowledge, so God has rejected them.

Summary of Hosea 5

Hosea prophesies judgment against Israel. They have rebelled against God and are unfaithful, and He will punish them.

Questions for Hosea 4-5

3) In Hosea 4:1-4, there is no faithfulness, love, or acknowledgment of God in the land, only cursing, lying, murder, stealing, adultery, and bloodshed. So the land will dry up and all who live in it will waste away. The beasts of the field, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea will be swept away. In Hosea 5:4-6, their deeds don’t allow them to return to God. They do not acknowledge God because a spirit of prostitution is in their hearts. They are arrogant and stumble in their sins. As a consequence, when they seek the Lord, they will not find Him. He has withdrawn Himself from them.

4) By allowing me to suffer the consequences of my sins, I draw closer to Him because I know He is right.

5) Cussing, wronging others, being selfish. They challenge me to be more like Jesus and to turn to Him.

Conclusions to WordGo’s Study of Hosea 4-5

Decay and idol worship only lead to God’s judgment. Consequences work to restore us to Jesus. Remember, God cannot abide in sin. He draws us back to Him when we sin with the consequences from sin.
